Anthropic stock: what exists today, and what changes in October

There is no public Anthropic stock — yet. The company confidentially filed its S-1 on June 1, 2026 and is targeting a Nasdaq listing in October, with investors reportedly aiming for a valuation near $2 trillion.2 Here's what buyers can and can't do today, how the valuation got here, and what equity holders should be doing before the window opens.

What's publicly reported

  • No ticker, no public market. Anthropic is private. Its shares do not trade on any exchange, and the company has not announced a ticker symbol.
  • Confidential S-1 filed June 1, 2026. Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and Morgan Stanley are reported lead underwriters, with the offering expected to raise more than $60 billion — which would rank among the largest IPOs on record.1
  • Target: October 2026, Nasdaq. Press reports place the public S-1 in late summer, a roadshow in August–September, and the listing in October. Timing can slip; nothing is final until pricing.2
  • Valuation trajectory in 2026 alone: ~$350B (February employee tender) → $965B ($65B Series H, May) → a reported ~$2T target for the IPO.1,2
  • Reported revenue: ~$47B annualized as of May 2026, with press projections of $100–120B annualized before year-end.2 Audited numbers arrive with the public S-1.
  • All figures are from public reporting. Pricing, share count, and lockup terms are not yet public. Verify against the S-1 when it's released.

Can you buy Anthropic stock today?

Not on any public market. Before the IPO, the only paths to exposure are private ones, and they are narrower than the headlines suggest:

For most investors, the practical answer is: the first real chance to buy is the Nasdaq listing in October. IPO allocations go mostly to institutions; buying in the open market after the debut is how most individual investors will actually participate.

How the valuation got here

  1. February 2026 — employee tender at ~$350B. Current and former employees could sell $5–6 billion of stock. Many chose to hold.1
  2. May 2026 — Series H: $65B raised at $965B. The round that put Anthropic's paper value above OpenAI's for the first time.1
  3. June 1, 2026 — confidential S-1. The formal start of the IPO process.1
  4. August 2026 — reported ~$2T IPO target. Roughly double the Series H mark, three months later. The public market will set the real number in October.2

Two honest caveats belong next to that chart: private-round marks are not market prices, and recent AI listings have priced across a wide range relative to their final private rounds. SpaceX's June 2026 debut priced strong and traded up 19% on day one3 — that is one data point, not a law of nature.

If you hold Anthropic equity, the clock is the tax clock

For employees, the October listing isn't primarily a chance to sell — the lockup will delay that — it's a taxable settlement event. Double-trigger RSUs settle at the IPO, and the full value that day is ordinary income, withheld at the 22% supplemental rate that badly undershoots a top-bracket California liability of roughly 52–53%.4 The Anthropic employee guide walks the six steps to take before October, and the IPO tax planner estimates the settlement bill and the hold-vs-sell math with your own numbers.
